Have you ever been stuck in a rut when it comes to your personal health and fitness? I know that I have definitely been guilty of this and of losing control of my decision making when I feel that way. When you’re stuck or lost, it can be easy to justify making a decision that may compromise your goals.
For me, discipline = freedom. When I begin to lack discipline in my workouts and diet, I can feel myself regress. What’s interesting to me when this happens is how quickly I will begin to just not feel good or like myself. My workout and eating regimen is not just for looking a certain way but for feeling a certain way. I feel better not only physically but mentally when I make the right decisions.
Setting goals, putting my head down and going to work is actually one of my favorite things. I am not where I want to be, and that’s actually amazing. That’s where the magic is, because I constantly have new goals. I am in charge of making the decision to go to the gym, lift those weights and finish that cardio. I am in charge of what I put in my mouth. I get to decide how I want to distribute my macros. I choose what I want to eat.
Here are a few tips to help you make better decisions:
-
Keep your goals top of mind. Write them down as often as you can and keep them in places where you can see them.
-
Eliminate opportunities to have to decide. This is key! If you meal plan, and prepare those meals, that leaves you minimal times to decide what to eat because you already decided! Make your gym appointments in advance.
-
Start small. Start by deciding to be 10% better. Instead of 2 diet cokes, drink one. Slowly get to the point where your habits reflect your goals. That regular boost of following though will snowball over time.
We all get to decide. Once we get a few days behind ya you will feel the motivation & momentum and it will be addicting! BUT YOU HAVE TO COMMIT!
